I had this mounting feeling that something really big was coming… So I ran with it… and it keeps getting bigger!
You may have seen some of the images of a grand dance of Paper Golems on my social media, as well as a monumental Tower of Babel. These were headed towards one very large painting.
Well, my Creative Team saw the sketches, and they had something different to say:
So this epic face-off between an Agape Fest and the Tower of Babel has expanded to a Diptych. For those not familiar with the term, a Diptych is two paintings that function as a single work of art, either by design or narrative.
The first painting, which I am working on now, will focus on the Tower of Babel. I intend for the work to carry thematic notes of the Anthropocene and the invasive “babel” of imperialistic technology and information, but with a counter-movement of hope, focusing on polyphonic (multi-voiced) communication and reintegration of the cosmos. (more on the difference between “universe/world” and “cosmos” on a later post).
I am especially excited because it looks like this piece already has an exhibition opportunity in May! More on that later.
The second panel will focus on an Agape Fest (Divine love) which is the grand dance of paper golems that have been spinning in my studio for months now. It is still in early stages of development. The music of their dance is getting louder in my head though, they are impatient!
